The Number One Mall project is located in the city of Zhangzhou, near a historically and culturally significant district protected by the city. The intent of design for the project was to reflect the rich culture and history of the area in a more vibrant, urban setting. The central axis running the length of the development helps define areas of use and separate the commercial and residential districts. Rational and efficient planning helps to maximize the use of space while separating the retail and public areas from the residential. The project extends itself across the boulevard, via an overhead footbridge, to take advantage of the nearby riverside landscape areas. The Number One Mall, Zhangzhou is a good example of combining residential and commercial elements together in a culturally sensitive manner to create a project that honors the past as well as the future.
